"If you open your eyes, you'll see the world in a different light" - AspieTravels

Hello there!, I’m Tom exploring solo neurodiverse travel around the world. I spend my free time doing something new, wherever that may be, I enjoy travel and meeting new people, so this enables me to combine my passion for travel with exploring new cultures.

I’m a travel blogger and vlogger creating videos on my YouTube channel of the same name & also a diagnosed Aspie. I share my experiences of traveling the world to help others who may be a neurodivergent or neurotypical alike feel more confident and comfortable traveling solo. I’m also a strong advocate for accessibility and inclusion in the travel industry. The blog will also cover what its like to fly in quieter business class cabins, whether short or long haul.

I’m also drawn to safe places that are off the beaten track, avoiding high footfall tourist areas and offer a unique perspective. I am always learning and growing, and I’m excited to share my experiences with the world.

My YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@AspieTravels features my interests in History, Travel, Culture, Architecture, Transport and Air Travel, as well as Engineering History together with marvels and relics of the past.

Our Passion

Turning travel passions into travel plans

Are you someone with a passion for travel? Do you also happen to be neurodivergent or have a loved one who is? Well, let me tell you that turning your passion for travel into an incredible adventure for the neurodivergent is not only possible, but it can be an immensely enriching and fulfilling experience!

First off, let’s acknowledge that travel can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. For neurodivergent individuals, it’s important to take into consideration their unique needs and preferences. Understanding this, you can customise your travel plans to make sure everyone involved has an incredible time. You should also be mindful that what happens in your home country isn’t always the same elsewhere.

So, how can you turn your passion for travel into amazing experiences for neurodiversity? It starts with careful planning and thoughtful consideration. Here are a few friendly tips and ideas to get you started:

Research neurodiversity-friendly destinations: Start by exploring travel destinations known for their inclusive and understanding environments. Look for places that prioritize accessibility, sensory considerations, and provide accommodations or services specifically designed for neurodiversity individuals. This will ensure a smoother and more enjoyable travel experience for everyone involved.

Create detailed itineraries: Neurodivergent individuals often appreciate predictability and structure. When planning your trip, consider creating detailed itineraries that outline each day’s activities, including transportation, accommodations, and scheduled breaks. Having a well-thought-out plan can help minimize anxiety and promote a sense of security throughout the journey.

Incorporate sensory-friendly experiences: Many neurodivergent individuals have sensory sensitivities.

Explore travel activities and attractions that offer sensory-friendly experiences. This could be visiting quiet natural landscapes, enjoying low-stimulation tours, or participating in hands-on workshops. By considering these sensory aspects, you’re ensuring a more comfortable and enjoyable journey for everyone.

Prioritise communication and flexibility: Communication is key when planning travel for the neurodivergent. Talk openly with your travel companions about their preferences, comfort levels, and any specific needs they may have. Stay flexible and be ready to adapt plans if necessary. Being understanding and accommodating will go a long way in creating a positive and inclusive travel experience especially in particularly crowded cities which may be bucket list trips for some or the best places to travel.

Connect with neurodiverse travel communities: A great way to gather more insights and recommendations is by connecting with neurodiverse travel communities. Online forums, social media groups, and travel blogs focused on neurodiversity offer a wealth of resources, personal experiences, and valuable advice. Sharing and learning from others who have travelled in similar situations can prove incredibly beneficial.

Remember, travel is a powerful tool that can bring people together, expand horizons, and create unforgettable memories. By turning your passion for travel into travel plans for the neurodiversity, you not only open up a world of opportunities for yourself or your loved ones, but you also contribute to a more inclusive and understanding society.

So, embrace your wanderlust, plan with empathy, and embark on a journey that is accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding for all. Happy travels!
