Hidden Garden Vigan is a unique walk-through garden experience in Vigan City that is easy to miss but definitely worth finding, filled with sculptures, a tropical plant nursery and water features together with The Bar, Coffee Corner and the Lilong and Lilang Restaurant.
Hidden Garden Vigan City in Ilocos Sur
When I visited Vigan City, I wasn’t only there to see the famous preserved heritage area of Calle Crisologo. It’s Vigan’s most iconic street and feels like walking through a living museum set in the Spanish colonial era.
This heritage area includes two main plazas, Plaza Salcedo and Plaza Burgos, both located beside St Paul’s Cathedral. After leaving this area, we drove to visit the RG Jar Factory. It’s one of the last surviving handcrafted pottery and jar factories in Pagburnayan, Vigan City.
Later, I searched for unique places to visit in Vigan City and came across a place called the Hidden Garden. We decided to find it because locals had described it as a coffee shop, bar, and restaurant with clean restrooms.
Finding the Hidden Garden Vigan City (Easy to Miss)
It’s easy to miss this place, which fits the name. From the outside, all that’s visible appears to be someone’s garage entrance, next to the Bulala Barangay Hall, along with what looks like a tropical plant garden and an open gate (there is a gantry sign also). As a result, you could easily walk past without realising there is unique experience together with a quirky bar, coffee shop, and restaurant inside if you didn’t already know it existed.
Walking Through the Tropical Foliage of Hidden Garden
Once inside, it felt very much like the tropical plant nursery we had seen from the outside. Mapped‑out paths led us through dense foliage, plants, and greenery. I spotted plenty of lizards, though fortunately no snakes.
I saw that each area of the gardens had a different theme zone, these included Plant World, Bonsai Corner and Bamboo Grove.
Along the way, we saw several water features including one which appeared to have dry ice flowing out of the water and sculptures around the garden area, and some of the plants were also for salein the plant world zone.
As I moved through the garden, one sculpture stood out to me, and I captured it in this short here.
Lilong and Lilang Restaurant
When I reached Hidden Garden’s Lilong and Lilang Restaurant, it presented a full range of Ilocano and Filipino dishes. This matches how Hidden Garden Vigan City is positioned as a place to experience local food within a garden setting.
I immediately recognised dishes such as Bagnet, Kare‑Kare, and Hidden Garden Fried Rice, alongside Special HALO‑HALO, a staple Filipino iced dessert containing a pick and mix of textures and flavours.
In addition, the menu includes local favourites like Vigan Miki with Bagnet Bits and Vigan Longganisa, both closely tied to the region. It also features heavier dishes, including Sizzling Bagnet (pork belly stewed in pork stock, twice fried, Sizzling Sisig (minced pork, chopped onions and chopped chicken livers), and Sinigang Na Bagnet (which is basically a soup with crispy fried pork belly).
However, the menu does not focus solely on meat. It also offers Fried Boneless Bangus (also known as Milkfish) and Buttered Shrimp, alongside lighter options like Caesar Salad, or Mango and Kiwi Salad. For variety, Mixed Fruits and Nutella Pancakes also appear on the menu.
From my experience, Hidden Garden’s Lilong and Lilang Restaurant reflects typical Ilocano food instead of adapting dishes for tourists. As a result, it aligns with Hidden Garden of Vigan’s role as both a local dining spot and a unique but worthwhile place to visit.
Hidden Garden: The Bar
At Hidden Garden, The Bar stocks a wide variety of alcoholic and non‑alcoholic drinks. These include juices, water, and soft drinks, which cater to different preferences beyond alcohol alone.
From around 4pm to 8pm, the bar area becomes noticeably livelier. Acoustic guitarists play, singing starts, and karaoke follows, which is extremely popular in the Philippines. As the music begins, people gather in the area. Gradually, the atmosphere shifts from a quiet walk‑through garden to something more social.
This contrast helps Hidden Garden Ilocos Sur stand out, combining a garden setting with separate coffee shop, bar with live music and a restaurant environment.
Hidden Garden: The Coffee Corner
When I came across The Coffee Corner Vigan inside Hidden Garden, it was clear this wasn’t just a basic coffee setup. Instead, it felt like an intentional part of the overall Hidden Garden experience.
I noticed the usual hot drinks you’d expect, including latte, cappuccino, flat white, and a selection of teas. Alongside these were options like Seasalt Latte, Popcorn Latte, and Green Matcha Latte. These aren’t typical of standard coffee shops, although Matcha with it bright green hue has been gaining popularity in the west.
I also saw bakery items such as Pink Strawberry Croissants and Double Baked Almond Croissants, alongside drinks like Raspberry Soda Fizz, Green Apple Soda Fizz, and Passionefruit Soda Fizz. These stood out as some of the more unusual choices available. As a result, it reinforced how Hidden Garden Vigan functions as an upmarket coffee shop, rather than a standard garden centre café.
In the end, I opted for a regular cappuccino and an almond croissant, mainly to avoid the higher sugar levels found in many of the other drink options.
