Solo Travel Experiences & Honest Reviews

"Travelling is the antidote to ignorance".

For me, this quote has become more true with every country I visit. Travel has pushed me out of familiar environments and shown me how different the world really is when you experience places first-hand rather than through assumptions, news headlines or stereotypes.

When I spend time in a new city or small town, I end up learning things I could never have understood from a distance — how people live, how they think, how they treat visitors and how their culture works in everyday life. Even simple things like food, public transport, or local routines can completely reshape how you see the world.

As someone who travels solo, and as a high-functioning autistic person, visiting new places forces me to observe more, listen more and understand more. The more I travel, the more those old preconceived ideas fall away. You realise how much we all have in common and how unnecessary some of our fears or assumptions actually are.

Stepping outside your comfort zone, even just a little.. can open up a world you didn’t expect. And every trip adds another piece to a much bigger picture of how diverse, complex and fascinating our world really is.

Experiencing the Northern Lights in Saariselkä, Finnish Lapland

Saariselkä is a remote Finnish town in the far north of Lapland, about 250 miles above the Arctic Circle. When I visited, I discovered how good it is for Northern Lights viewing. The skies are extremely dark once you step away from the hotel area, so the auroras are far clearer than in most Lapland resorts. Saariselkä also offers some unforgettable winter activities. Snowmobile safaris across the snowy fells were a real highlight of my trip.
